Extending the Capability of Pocket Pit Lap Timer to support multiple IR Transponders and Timing Management for Races
As the owners of Pocket Pit Lap Timers know, the original Pocket Pit Lap Timer firmware only allows a Pocket Pit Lap Timer to work with a factory-paired IR Transponder that carries a specific Transponder ID. Each Pocket Pit IR Transponder will have to work with its own Pocket Pit Lap Timer and therefore multiple Lap Timers will have to be set up at an RC track if there are multiple racers using the Pocket Pit lap counting system. Moreover, because Pocket Pit Lap Timers does not talk to each other, it is not possible to host a racing session using Pocket Pit Lap Timers for otherwise the various Lap Timers will have to be synchronized -- this is not possible with the original Pocket Pit firmware.
The above problem is now solved by updating the Pocket Pit firmware using this PPUpdateFX program provided by RCRacingware. TBScanner, as the new firmware from RCRacingware is called, allows a Pocket Pit Lap Timer to capture the IR signals sent by multiple Pocket Pit IR Transponders that have different Transponder IDs. In other words, the new firmware will free a Pocket Pit Lap Timer from the pairing of a particular IR Transponder and make the Lap Timer workable with other IR Transponders. Moreover, apart from Pocket Pit's own IR Transponders, TBScanner is capable of understanding the IR signals produced by Zeppin Racing IR Transponders as well. Hence, a Pocket Pit Lap Timer may now capture lap times produced by both Pocket Pit's and Zeppin Racing's IR Transponders at the same time.
All the above functions could be realized by connecting the updated Pocket Pit Lap Timer with the TimingBeam android app.
